Egans Frenchie Nymph is one of the most versatile nymphs that have ever been tied. The Egans Frenchie Nymph imitates a very large amount of hatching bugs. For this all-around great fly, you will need gold head weights in a small size, a size 16-20 hook, a size 70 UTC thread to match the colors you choose, a pheasant tail, and a bright color dubbing for a strike indicator. You will also need head cement and a fly vice with all the tools. Wapsi makes a great starter kit for fly tying which can be found online at Sportsman's warehouse.
To start the fly slide your weight all the way up to the eye of the hook. After that take your thread and make wraps all the way back to the bend of the hook. Then take your pheasant tail and leave about a pencil width of tail hanging off the back. Once that is secure make sure your thread is at the back of the weight. Then in tight touching wraps take the pheasant tail to the back of the weight and tie it off. then take your dubbing and pull enough out to make a noodle that will wrap around about three times. To make a noodle take dubbing and pull it apart with your fingers, then lay in on your thread and twist it back and fourth. After you have wrapped it around secure it with a few whip finishes and ad some head cement The best way to fish this is to let it roll slow towards the bottom and bounce off rocks. This will be sure to catch you a lot of fish if you are in the right water and hatch cycle.
